The Western Sydney Amateur Astronomy Group (WSAAG) is a group of enthusiastic and dedicated amateur astronomers based in the western suburbs of Sydney, NSW, Australia. The club was founded in a meeting of 25 enthusiastic astronomers at UWS, Nepean (Kingswood) on Tuesday, 19th of November 1991.
WSAAG provides a focus for people to meet and learn about astronomy. The club also provides many opportunities for night-sky viewing. Our members come from all walks of life and have a diverse range of interests; some have telescopes and some don't. You don’t need to know the sky and you don’t need to be a rocket scientist.
We can answer many of your questions about astronomy, help you set up and use equipment and assist you in locating constellations, planets, clusters, nebulae and galaxies. We can also advise you on the purchase of binoculars or your first telescope. For those interested in photography, several members have expertise in astro-imaging and associated software.
A list of our objectives and how we go about achieving them can be found here.
The club meets at Kingswood Neighbourhood Centre and online via Zoom on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm.
WSAAG regularly invites specialist guest speakers to give talks on interesting topics and new research in astronomy. Dates of meetings and observing nights, names of guest speakers and scheduled topics of interest, can be found on the WSAAG website in the Events Calendar.
Kingswood Neighbourhood Centre is located at:
19 Bringelly Road, Kingswood, NSW
Visitors wishing to attend a monthly meeting must book by emailing us.
Members and visitors are notified by email of the Zoom meeting details a few days prior to the meeting.
Twice a month, there is dark-sky observing at the Linden observing site in the Blue Mountains. If you don’t have a telescope, don’t worry; club members will be more than happy to show you the sky or answer any questions you might have! Directions to the observing site can be found on the WSAAG website on the Linden observing site page.
