Membership Information

Anyone interested, passionate, or with a love of astronomy is welcome to join the WSAAG Club. A telescope is not a requirement, nor is an encyclopaedic knowledge of astronomy. By joining us you get the chance to:

  • Meet people who share your passion and interest;
  • Make some new friends;
  • Get assistance with that newly purchased telescope;
  • Attend talks on topics of astronomical interest from professionals and others;
  • Participate and gain from many other benefits, too numerous to mention.

The membership fees for 2024 are:

Individual - $50

Family - $70

Student or Pensioner - $30

Membership is annual and entitles members to the WSAAG newsletter, free entry to the Beames' Observatory at Linden, voting at WSAAG elections, and to hold an office in the WSAAG committee (subject to the Club's constitution and the laws of New South Wales).

Family Membership: Includes an applicant plus spouse/partner with or without dependent school age children who are still at school or completing tertiary studies. It does not cover brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, grandparents or other immediate or extended family members of applicant.

Pension and Student Membership: Student membership covers any student while they are at school or completing tertiary studies. Pension membership is only applicable to those who have a current pension concession card – a seniors card by itself does not qualify for a pension membership.

For existing memberships your fees are due on the first day of July.

For new members who join on or after the 1st April, your membership also covers the next year (e.g. you join on 17 April, 2024 and do not have to renew till 1 July, 2025).

At this time, prospective members must attend two of our meetings online or in-person as a visitor before deciding to join WSAAG. This is our first contact and should give people a better idea of what we do and what the club has to offer.

After two meetings, if you still wish to join the club, you will be sent an Application for Membership form and information about membership payment. It is not necessary for a proponent to sign your membership application prior to joining WSAAG. However, the committee reserves the right to accept or reject an application for membership.

Membership is also provisional until your photo identification (licence) is sighted by a committee person at the next available face to face meeting e.g. at a Linden Observatory observing session. Club meetings are now being held online or in-person on the third Wednesday of the month at the Kingswood Neighbourhood Centre.

We do not accept membership applications or payments at Linden or at any designated observing session. For information about membership and how to proceed, contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
