M33 Spiral Galaxy by Gerry Aarts366 viewsPart of the Local Group of galaxies that includes Andromeda and the Milky Way. M33 is not an ideal Southern Hemisphere object to view or image. I captured this one at Mudgee NSW when the galaxy was around 20 degrees above the horizon. 10 x 4 minute subs for a total of 40 minutes exposure. Celestron GPS11 with Hyperstar f1.8 lens and Meade DSI III camera.gerry aarts

NGC 2997 Spiral Galaxy by Gerry Aarts334 viewsA magnitude 10.1 Spiral galaxy inclined 45 degrees to our line of sight. About 24.8 million light years distant, located in the constellation Antilia. Best viewed in the Southern Hemisphere from February through to May. Imaged at the South Pacific Star Party, “Wiruna” Ilford NSW Australia in April 2008. Celestron GPS11, EQ Wedce, f3.3. Meade DSIc. gerry aarts

NGC 4565 Galaxy by Gerry Aarts351 viewsOne of the most spectacular edge on spirals you can view through your telescope. The bright central core bulges out of both sides of the galaxy. Around 49 million light years distant this is how our galaxy would appear if approached edge on. Imaged at our WSAAG Linden dark sky site in NSW Australia. 10 x 15 seconds combined exposures. Celestron GPS11, Hyperstar f1.8 lens, Meade DSI 111 camera.gerry aarts

Leo Triplet ( M66 Group ) Galaxies by Gerry Aarts452 viewsA stunning sight this group of galaxies gives us an opprtunity to view or image a face on spiral, partly edge on spiral and an edge on spiral galaxy in the one field of view. Imaged this at WSAAG's Linden Observatory dark sky observing site. Appr 35 million light years distant.M66 & M65 on the bottom and NGC 3628 at the top. Celestron GPS11, f1.8 hyperstar lens, Meade DSI 111 Colour camera. A meteor or satelite crossed through the centre.gerry aarts

M83 Galaxy by Gerry Aarts419 viewsM83 is a beautiful face on spiral galaxy. One of our close neighbours only 15 million lightyears distant. Celestron GPSS11, Meade DSIc. 125 x 15 seconds exposures. South Pacific Star Party, Ilford NSW Australia April 2006.gerry aarts

NGC 1097 Galaxy by Gerry Aarts294 viewsI have to image this one again under better rconditions in the future. NGC 1097 and 1097A is a barred spiral galaxy. It is also a Seyfert type radio galaxy. It has a very bright and active nucleus. 15 x 1 minute exposures. Celestron GPS11 at f3.3. Meade DSIc. Linden Observatory, Blue Mountains Australia.gerry aarts

NGC 1232 Spiral Galaxy by Gerry Aarts319 viewsA face on spiral galaxy 70 million lightyears distant with companion galaxy NGC 1232A on the far left. Imaged this one at the Little Dessert VicSouth star party 10th November 2006. 40 x 30 seconds exposures, Celestron GPS11 at f3.3, EQ Wedge, Meade DSIc.gerry aarts

NGC 1365 Galaxy by Gerry Aarts370 viewsIf there was ever a galaxy that would make you want to look through a telescope then this is it. A barred spiral galaxy this is the finest example of one in the Southern Hemisphere. 40 x 30 seconds exposures. Celestron GPS11 at f3.3, Meade DSIc. Taken at Siding Springs Observatory 2t September 2006. gerry aarts

NGC 253 Sculptor Galaxy by Gerry Aarts298 viewsVery prominent edge on barred spiral galaxy about 5 million light-years distant. One of the closest neighbouring galaxies to our own Milky Way galaxy it also contains hundreds of billions of stars. Clearly visible in even small aperture telescopes. 20 x 42 seconds combined exposures. Celestron GPS11 with Hyperstar f1.8 lens, Meade DSIc. Linden Observatory 14 October 2007.

NGC 7793 Spiral Galaxy by Gerry Aarts174 viewsA beautiful face on spiral galaxy that to me seems to shine like a box of jewels. A galaxy not unlike our own that contains 200 billion stars. The foreground stars are in our Milky Way Galaxy. NGC7793 is about 10 million light years distant. 21 x 30 seconds exposures with Celestron GPS11 at f3.3, Meade DSIc, Taken at our observing site at Linden, Blue Mountains in October 2007.
