Tarantula Nebula by Gerry Aarts158 viewsThe Tarantula Nebula is locted in the large Magellanic Cloud approximately 160,000 light years away. There are thousands of massive stars blowing off their material to create this huge gas cloud that has been heated to millions of degrees by these stellar winds and also by supernova explosions. Imaged at my Mudgee Observatory, this is a a composition of 2 x 10 minute exposures. Equipment: Celestron HD Edge11 scope, f.5 reducer. CGEM Mount for tracking only. SBIG ST4000 camera & AO8. Guiding was with the AO8 unit only. gerry aarts

Trapezium: Centre 0f the Orion Nebula by Gerry Aarts247 viewsThe Trapezium is the central portion of the Orion Nebula (M42). This is a 30x 20 seconds stack of images (total 10 mimutes of exposure. Imaging this bright region of M42 and managing to keep the central 4, bright stars seperated is qiute complex. Imaged at my Mudgee property "Bundaleer" on 30/12/2010. One of only 2 images for the whole of 2010.
Celestron GPS11 f3.3 focal reducer, EQ mode, Auto Guided, Meade DSI IIIc, Photoshop.

M20 Trifid Nebula by Gerry Aarts362 viewsOne of my better nebulae images from Linden Observatory 04/05/2008. Distance estimated at 5200 lightyears. Red emmission nebula and blue reflection nebula shows a wonderful contrast. The star colours are also amazing, a myriad beautiful yellow and blue stars reveal themselves in this image. 9x30 seconds combined images. Celestron GPS11 with f1.8 Hyperstar lens, Meade DSI III camera.gerry aarts

M8 at wiruna SPSP295 viewsOne i decided to take... Its not the best but i had a go..

I used the same equipment, my
Newtonian 10" F/5.6, My Meade DSI colour CCD, Exp 15sec X 30 LRGB in FITS,

I think its ok for an amateur like me with what i have..claude

Horsehead and Flame498 viewsThe Horsehead and Flame nebulas are located in the constellation of Orion.
Orion is a wonderful region for the astro imager, with many spectacular and challenging objects. This image is a stack of 6x10-minute subs captured in late September from a dark sky site.

Tarantula Nebula NGC2070498 viewsTha Tarantula Nebula is located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, Constallation Dorado, visible in the southern sky during summer.
I posted an image of the 'spider' earlier this year, it is interesting to see the difference in the 2 images resulting from a new scope and camera, as well as experince and valuable advice given by fellow enthusiasts. Thank you all.

M42 Orion nebula by Gerry Aarts2134 viewsMy second attempt at processing this image achieved more detailed nebulosity then the first image posted earlier. Some 1270 light-years distant and 24 light-years wide. Imaged from my back yard in Cranebrook, a fringe Sydney suburb. Celestron GPS11 in altazimuth mode, Hyperstar f1.8 lens, Meade DSI III camera. 40 x 15 seconds (8 minutes) total exposures.gerry aarts

Tarantula Nebula and surrounds263 viewsThe Tarantula Nebula, located on the edge of the Great Magellanic cloud, was once mistaken for a star.
Just right of centre is the bright Tarantula, surrounded by dust clouds swirling off to the upper left.
The dense star field of the Large Magellanic Cloud is clearly visible below and to the left.
The image appears blue-green in this visible spectrum image. A camera with near-infrared response would show more red.

Helix Nebula by Gerry Aarts640 viewsThe Helix Nebula sometimes refered to s as the "Eye of God. Called a planetary nebula (nothing to do with planets), early astronomers thought they looked like planets. This is a supernova remnant, an ever expanding buble of gas from an exploded star. About 650 light-years distant this is one of the closest planetary nebula from earth. A combination of 20 x 15 seconds exposures. Image obtained at observing site , Linden Observatory 16th Septembert 2007. Celestron GPS11 telescope with Hyperstar f1.8 lens, Meade DSIc. 20 x 30 seconds exposures.gerry aarts
