I''m also glad to hear you have worked out a reasonable solution. I think that ultimatley they stuffed me as I am now less and less interested in radio due to the costs, I paid a lot in the beginning then had to pull it all down and have never had any joy since and don''t really care if I switch it on or not.

I suppose in a year or so, I''ll get the bug again, but I really blame the countcil for scrwing me, I was flying before they got involved, but they ripped my heasrt out and spat it out, thanks Blacktown Council, you suck.

Ron,

I cannot think of one thing that a council does that validates their existance.   Nothing.

Anthony,  I think I heard you on 40m yesterday.   Was in the process of tuning the Titan so couldn''t stop and say hello at the time.

With a bit of luck, I will hear you online again.

Congrats on your F call mate.

Hi Jase. You must have a really powerful receiver to have picked me up yesterday as I wasnt on! LOL  Must have been a similar call sign.
The only thing down here that the council have done is made sure I got all the pensioner discounts on my Cats regos.
They however have let me down on other things. When my Dad was alive the council organised lawn mowing for us as neither of us could do it.
After Dad died last year they stopped the mowing straight away and wouldnt help me with it as, in their words, I am capable of organising it myself.......
Well so was my Dad. I cant afford to pay anyone to do it so I saved up and bought a cheap electric mower and do a few metres every couple of days.
I even got the social workers onto them but it did no good. They are not very fair. Im collecting very thin copper wire from transformers in case I ever have to make stealth antennas! LOL  I''ll be on over the next few days and if your on Id really like to talk to you. Rons told me a lot about you, all good of course! When I get up to Sydney Id like to have a look at your rigs. Ron described them as pretty darn good. Anthony.

The only thing the council do well is suggest you put in a DA, of course you pay just for putting it in, which seems a terrific wicket for them  Embarrassed

Ron,

Well that is true mate.  However, I must admit, they were very accommodating to a point.

Marie Claire, the Enforcement Officer, was very nice to talk to and even more nice in person.

She was very informative and went out of her way to listen to what I had to say.   Regardless
of whether or not they were getting me to pull down my antenna, I felt they were not the nazis
most people make them out to do.

She does not write the bi-laws, nor does she write State Legislation.    She has a job to enforce it.

I think she was probably pleased to talk to someone complaining about being restricted who was not
screaming down her hear.

I am sure she gets lots of that.   I felt diplomacy was a prime directive in getting what I wanted out
of the process of contacting her.  I am guessing to a point it has worked.

I was definitely and suitably peeved that she would not answer my call directly, when I called her to
get directions she said she would provide me, after her initial visit.  However, she did not answer the phone
and may well have been busy on another line or with something else.

The other woman I talked to, was simply a bit to embroiled in her sense of self importance to listen, which is
why I demanded to speak to a Councilor.

The Councilor I did speak to.  Scott Lloyd, well what can I say.   He is someone with half a brain and someone who
not only is prepared to listen, but is prepared to come around and check my gear out.

I think appealing to his sense of patriotism and community spirit helped.

I expressed to him that Amateur Radio Operators whilst self indulgent in their own hobby, are prepared to help at a moments notice
should an Emergency arise, and as we are always listening to the RF Spectrum, there is always the probability that one might, and
most HAM''s would be the quickest off the mark to relay important information in order to try and help.

Also, I expressed my interest in joining WICEN, which I will do, should I have enough time when I get back to work, and should there
be a possibility that I will be able to be released from Duties to attend, in order to help out in the event of a natural disaster or other
emergency.   Similar to what I would if I was a member of the CFA or SES.

I also expressed to him, that I was keen to help out down the Merrylands RSL Youth Club.

I went to Merrylands High School the Friday before Anzac day, in uniform, and attended their Anzac day ceremony.

I also spoke with some of the kids, and I must tell you these kids were Middle Eastern, and Islanders, and they were very interested in doing
their bit for this country and joining the ADF in one form of another.

From that short experience, I realised a potential to get involved with the Youth Club, and I have been considering helping out down there.

What I am going to propose, is that I introduce Amateur Radio to these kids.

Who knows, might get them off the streets at night, and perhaps chatting away to their local and perhaps new out of town friends, and even DX friends,
that they can meet in Amateur Radio.

If I am back at work, and once I have completed as much rehab as I can, then this is something I am keen to do.

It might even be able to help fight against Bullying in schools if I can somehow get the nerdy kids and the biggest kids together, doing something that is mutually
interesting to both of them.   Perhaps the smarter kids can help out the not so smart bully types, and perhaps it might just stem the nasty shit that occurs in
schools.

I do not know.  But if someone does not try it.   Then we never will know.

I expressed this to the Councilor, and he was very impressed with the idea.   Perhaps even funding can be brought to purchase equipment.

Food for thought.

You see, I have always either worn a uniform, or volunteered for something through out my teenage and adult years.   This is no different.

It never hurts to have someone like a Council on side I guess.   You get nothing if you do not ask, and hell I am prepared to spend an hour or two a fortnight or week,
if it means I get to keep my antenna.

So there you have it.

As for your vertical problem.   Well I pulled down my G5RV today, you are welcome to it, if you want it.  Will require re-assembling, but thats a couple of solder joints mate.

Also, this TITAN DX I grabbed would work perfectly for your situation.   Not only that.   I think someone suggested a Carolina Windom to Anthony.

Brilliant Idea.   I have a mate Greg VK7FGGT who is DX-ing on 10 watts all over the globe on his Windom, and he swears by it.   I swear by the fact it works.

The trees in your yard mate, would be perfect.   I  unfortunately do not have the luxury of such height here.    Which is why I am relying on a Vertical.

Cheers mate.

Jase.

Thanks Jase, I''ll take any antenna''s I can get, when Anthony comes up, he is going to string them up for me and check them out (joints etc.), do any soldering that''s required and we''ll put them up and hopefully get me focused in the right direction again.

I''m glad to hear that your newest antenna is going well and I was wondering when we are going to give our handhelds another workout  Grin

Make sure you grab me for the next meeting.

Enjoy your Dx''ing  Smiley
